While his mother seeks treatment in rehab, teenager Nick comes to New York to stay with Cal, a jazz musician and friend of his late father's. During his stay, he makes friends who show him what the city has to offer.

The unstable life and relationship of a mother and daughter seems to be looking up with the opportunity of a fresh start, until the dark side of the American dream leads them to face the prospect of homelessness and tests their bond to the core.
